Recall that a space \(X\) has the set star-Menger (resp. set star-K-Menger) property provided for every non-empty \(A\subset X\) and every sequence \(\langle\mathcal U_n\rangle\) of collections of open sets each covering \(\overline{A}\) there is a sequence \(\langle\mathcal V_n\rangle\) (resp. \(\langle K_n\rangle\)) such that \(\mathcal V_n\) is a finite subset of \(\mathcal U_n\) (resp. \(K_n\) is a compact subset of \(X\)) and \(A\) is covered by \(\{\mathrm{St}(\bigcup\mathcal V_n, \mathcal U_n)\}_n\) (resp. \(\{\mathrm{St}(K_n, \mathcal U_n)\}_n\)). After presenting examples of well-behaved spaces exhibiting that neither property implies the other, the property set star-K-Menger is studied in detail: whether it is preserved under closed subspaces (assuming \(\mathfrak d=\mathfrak c\) it is not, even under regular-closed G\(_\delta\) subspaces); behaviour with respect to the Alexander duplicate and products with compacta; and preservation under the inverse of an open perfect map.
