Extremal quasimodular forms are those achieving the maximal possible order of vanishing at \(i \infty \) for a given weight \(w\) and depth \(r\). If is conjectured by \textit{M. Kaneko} and \textit{M. Koike} [Kyushu J. Math. 60, No. 2, 457--470 (2006; Zbl 1126.11023)] that for depth \(r\leq 4\) all Fourier coefficients of a normalized extremal quasimodular form are non-negative. The main result of the present paper is that all but possibly finitely many Fourier coefficients of an extremal quasimodular form of weight \(w\) and depth \(r\leq 4\) are positive. The proof uses the asymptotic behaviour of the Fourier coefficients of quasimodular cusp forms. In the first sections the author develops useful general rules for derivaties of quasimodular forms that are used for the explicit computations to complete the proof of the main result. Numerical experiments confirm the positivity conjecture for \(w\leq 200\) and \(1\leq r\leq 4\).
