The Wiman-Edge pencil is the universal family \(\mathcal{C}\)/\(\mathcal{B}\) of projective complex algebraic curves of genus \(6\) admitting a faithful action of the icosahedral group. For the origins of the subject see [\textit{A. Wiman}, Stockh. Akad. Bihang \(\text{XXI}_1\). No. 3. 41 S. (1895; JFM 26.0658.03)] and [\textit{W. L. Edge}, Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 89, 413--421 (1981; Zbl 0466.51020)]. In the present paper the authors prove that the monodromy of \(\mathcal{C}\)/\(\mathcal{B}\) is commensurable with a Hilbert modular group which implies that it is arithmetic. They also give a modular interpretation. For further background see [\textit{A. G. Zamora}, Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 61, No. 2, 401--412 (2018; Zbl 1420.14062); \textit{I. Dolgachev} et al., Eur. J. Math. 4, No. 3, 879--930 (2018; Zbl 1423.14185)].
