The author studies compactness of composition operators \(C_\phi\) on the Bergman-Hilbert space \(A^2(D)\) on certain bounded convex domains \(D\) in \(\mathbb{C}^n\). A~general assumption is that the boundary \(bD\) of \(D\) contains non-trivial analytic disks. One result achieved tells us that, if \(D\) is a smooth bounded strongly convex domain and \(\phi=(\phi_1,\dots,\phi_n):D\to D\) a map for which the \(\phi_j\) are holomorphic in a neighborhood of \(\overline D\), then a necessary condition for compactness of \(C_\phi\) on \(A^2(D)\) is that \(bD\cap b\phi(\overline D)\) is nowhere dense in \(bD\). Another result states that for smooth bounded convex domains \(\Omega\) satisfying the so-called Levi-flat condition, the angular derivative does not exist at strongly pseudoconvex points, that is, \[ \lim_{\xi\in \Omega,\,\xi\to p} \frac{d(\xi, b\Omega)}{d(\phi(\xi), b\Omega)}=0\] whenever \(C_\phi\) is compact on \(A^2(\Omega)\). Finally, if \(D\) is a smoothly bounded pseudoconvex domain, then \(C_\phi\) is not compact on \(A^2(\Omega)\) whenever \(\phi\) is a proper holomorphic map with \(\phi\in C^1(\overline \Omega)\).
