Let \(q \geq 3\) be an integer, \(\chi\) be a non-principal primitive Dirichlet character mod \(q\) and \(L(s, \chi)\) be the associated Dirichlet \(L\)-function. Assuming the generalised Riemann hypothesis (GRH), the authors extend the \(q\)-range of validity for the effective Littlewood lower and upper bounds given by \textit{Y. Lamzouri} et al. on \(|L(1, \chi)|\) [Math. Comput. 84, No. 295, 2391--2412 (2015; Zbl 1326.11058)] for every integer \(q \geq 3\). As a consequence, they also improve the \(q\)-range of validity for the lower and upper bounds of the class number of the imaginary quadratic field \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-q})\), for every integer \(q \geq 5\).
