In the paper under review, the author provides a formula for the splitting of the congruence subgroup (mod 4) of \(\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{Z})\) into the double cover of \(\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{R})\) in terms of Plücker coordinates, which is applied in [\textit{E. Karasiewicz}, J. Number Theory 215, 216--260 (2020; Zbl 1472.11118)]. ``The method of proof is as follows: We use Miller's formula to study certain symmetries satisfied by the splitting map (Sect. 3.5). Using these symmetries we can reduce the computation of the splitting on a general element of the domain to an element with more favorable arithmetic properties (Sect. 3.9). On this special subset, Miller's formula can be expressed in terms of Plücker coordinates by a direct computation (Sect. 3.10).''
