A \(*\)-homomorphism \(\varphi:A\to B\) between two \(C^*\)-algebras induces \(K\)-theory group homomorphisms \(K_*(\varphi):K_*(A)\to K_*(B)\), \(*=0,1\). Several conditions are given for injectivity and surjectivity of \(K_*(\varphi)\) and for \(K_*(B)/K_*(\varphi)(K_*(A))\) being torsion free.
