This paper studies the dynamics of Lassa fever in Nigeria in the context of mathematical epidemic modelling. Based on a system of ordinary differential equations, the paper presents a six compartmental deterministic model to gain insight into the transmission dynamics of Lassa fever within rodents as well as human population. The model parameters are obtained based upon the empirical data from the first week of January 2020 to the eleventh week of 2021 in Nigeria. The paper also presents local stability and global stability analysis for the Lassa fever-free equilibrium. The existence and the stability of the endemic equilibria are studied. Some conditions for the existence of the bifurcation phenomenon are obtained. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.
