This is a (comparative) study of three metrics underlying the intrinsic geometry of the annular ring \(R(r , 1) = \{z \in {\mathbb C}\, |\, r < |z| < 1\}\) with \(0 < r < 1\). They are: (i) the \(j^{*}\)-metric found in [\textit{P. Hariri} et al., Rocky Mt. J. Math. 47, No. 4, 1121--1148 (2017; Zbl 1376.30019) (obtained by modifying the distance ratio metric introduced in [\textit{F. W. Gehring} and \textit{B. P. Palka}, J. Anal. Math. 30, 172--199 (1976; Zbl 0349.30019)]), (ii) the triangular ratio metric introduced in [\textit{P. A. Hästö}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 274, No. 1, 38--58 (2002; Zbl 1019.54011)], and (iii) the Möbius metric introduced in [\textit{M. Vuorinen}, Conformal geometry and quasiregular mappings. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag (1988; Zbl 0646.30025)] and studied in [\textit{P. Seittenranta}, Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 125, No. 3, 511--533 (1999; Zbl 0917.30015)]. There are upper and lower bounds for the triangular ratio metric in \(R(r , 1)\), the metrical circles drawn with these three metrics are studied. Sharp inequalities between the three metrics are obtained.
