This article presents a way to decompose self-adjoint operators acting on the noncommutative Schwartz space into a difference of two positive ones. This decomposition is reminiscent of Jordan decomposition in \(C^*\)-algebras. The noncommutative Schwartz space is a Fréchet *-algebra which has appeared in several contexts and has been recently investigated thoroughly by \textit{T. Ciaś} and the author [Banach J. Math. Anal. 11, No. 3, 615--635 (2017; Zbl 1459.47029)]. As a consequence of the main result, the space of linear and continuous operators acting on the noncommutative Schwartz space is the linear span of the cone of positive operators.
