For a topological space \(X\), the family of all nonempty closed subsets of \(X\) is denoted by \(\text{CL}(X)\) and the family of all nonempty compact subsets of \(X\) is denoted by \(\mathcal{K}(X)\). When \(X\) is a Hausdorff space, \(\mathcal{K}(X) \subset \text{CL}(X)\). Given \(X\) and \(Y\) topological spaces and \(f\colon X\to Y\) a continuous function, it is known that the continuity of the induced function \(\widetilde{f}\colon \text{CL}(X) \to \text{CL}(Y)\) is always guaranteed when \(\text{CL}(X)\) and \(\text{CL}(Y)\) are endowed with the Vietoris or the Hausdorff metric topology. The paper under review is very interesting because the authors study this problem for other hypertopologies such as the Fell topology, as well as for the Attouch-Wets metric topology, which has not been studied. In other words, the main aim of this paper is to discuss the problem of when a continuous map between topological spaces induces a continuous function between their respective hyperspaces considering among others, the hyperspaces \((\text{CL}(X), \tau_{V^-})\), \((\mathcal{K}(X), \tau_{V^-})\), \((\text{CL}(X), \tau_{V^+})\), \((\mathcal{K}(X), \tau_{V^+})\), \((\text{CL}(X), \tau_{V})\), \((\mathcal{K}(X), \tau_{V})\), where \(\tau_{V^-}\), \(\tau_{V^+}\) and \(\tau_{V}\) denote the lower Vietoris, the upper Vietoris and the Vietoris topologies. Also, they consider the upper Fell and the Fell topologies, as well as the Hausdorff metric topology and the Attouch-Wets topology. The paper also provides some results to the problem of whether a continuous action of a topological group \(G\) on a topological space \(X\) induces a continuous action on \(\text{CL}(X)\). The authors give sufficient conditions on the topology of \(G\) to guarantee that the induced action on \(\text{CL}(X)\) is continuous, if \(\text{CL}(X)\) is endowed with the Hausdorff or the Attouch-Wets metric topology.
