The author proves some rigidity type results on conics. These are motivated by some recent progress on the Birkhoff conjecture and concern symmetries of polar duality which preserves incidence relations between points and lines. Furthermore, interesting circle maps related to chess billiards are obtained in the context of Hilbert's 13th problem.
