The authors review the classification results for Morse-Smale systems with respect to stable isotopy connectedness. In particular they discuss an old positive result of \textit{S. Newhouse} and \textit{M. M. Peixoto} [Astérisque 31, 16--41 (1976; Zbl 0324.58012)] for Morse-Smale flows, the result of \textit{G. Fleitas} [Bol. Soc. Bras. Mat. 8, 47--51 (1977; Zbl 0418.58014)], the construction of \textit{S. Matsumoto} [Invent. Math. 51, 1--7 (1979; Zbl 0416.58015)], and some obstruction to the existence of stable arc due to \textit{V. Z. Grines} and \textit{O. V. Pochinka} [Math. Notes 94, No. 6, 862--875 (2013; Zbl 1360.37071); translation from Mat. Zametki 94, No. 6, 828--845 (2013); Mosc. Math. J. 16, No. 4, 727--749 (2016; Zbl 1375.37059)]. Also a recent result in [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 41, No. 3, 1101--1131 (2021; Zbl 1461.37044)] of the second and the third authors on the complete classification of gradient-like diffeomorphisms on the 2-sphere is reviewed.
