A compactification \(\alpha X\) of a completely regular space \(X\) is said to be perfect if a unique continuous surjection \(f : \beta X \to \alpha X\) on the Stone-Čech compactification \(\beta X\) of \(X\) to \(\alpha X\) is monotone, i.e., \(f^{-1} (y)\) is connected for every \(y \in \alpha X\). The notion of Higson compactification was introduced in the study of coarse geometry (see [\textit{J. Roe}, Index theory, coarse geometry, and topology of manifolds. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1996; Zbl 0853.58003); \textit{J. Roe}, Lectures on coarse geometry. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2003; Zbl 1042.53027)]). \textit{A. N. Dranishnikov and J. Smith} [Topology Appl. 154, No. 4, 934--952 (2007; Zbl 1116.54020)] introduced the sublinear Higson compactification to study asymptotic Assouad-Nagata dimension, and \textit{J. Kucab and M. Zarichnyi} [Algebra Discrete Math. 17, No. 2, 280--287 (2014; Zbl 1325.54008)] introduced the subpower Higson compactification. \textit{Y. Iwamoto} and the second author [Tsukuba J. Math. 25, No. 1, 179-186 (2001; Zbl 1017.54014)] proved that the Higson corona (i.e., the boundary of the Higson compactification) of the half open interval \([0,\infty)\) with the usual metric is an indecomposable continuum, and the authors and \textit{N. Chinen} [Colloq. Math. 107, No. 1, 89--98 (2007; Zbl 1118.54013)] gave a necessary and sufficient condition for the Higson compactification of a noncompact locally connected proper metric space to be perfect, where a metric space is said to be proper if every closed bounded subset is compact. \textit{Y. Iwamoto} [Tsukuba J. Math. 42, No. 2, 173--190 (2018; Zbl 1417.54009)] also proved that the subpower Higson corona of \([0,\infty)\) is an indecomposable continuum, and asked whether the sublinear Higson corona of \([0,\infty)\) is an indecomposable continuum. In this paper, the authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the sublinear and the subpower Higson compactifications of a noncompact locally connected proper metric space to be perfect, respectively. By using the condition for the sublinear Higson compactification, the authors answer Iwamoto's question affirmatively. Examples concerning the perfectness of the Higson, the sublinear Higson and the subpower Higson compactifications are also given.
