Let \((M,\omega)\) be a compact Kähler manifold. Let \(L\) be a prequantum line bundle on \(M\). In particular, the curvature of the Chern connection on \(L\) equals \(-i\omega\). Let \(k\) be a positive integer. Choose and fix a (not identically zero) holomorphic section \(s_0\) of \(L^k\). Choose an orthonormal basis in the finite-dimensional complex vector space \(H^0(M,L^k)\): \(\psi_j=f_js_0\), \(j\in \{ 1,...,m\}\). The authors define Rawnsley-type coherent states. A somewhat different construction yields squeezed states. Properties of both types of states are derived. In particular, each of the two systems is overcomplete in \(H^0(M,L^k)\). Another familiar property is: for every \(x\in M\) and every \(\varphi\in H^0(M,L^k)\) the coherent state \(\varphi_x\) satisfies the equation \[ \langle \varphi, \varphi_x\rangle = \frac{g(x)}{p(x)} \] where \(\varphi=gs_0\) and \(p(x)=(\sum_{j=1}^m|f_j(x)|^2)^{1/2}\). A similar property holds for squeezed states. The authors propose a procedure to define coherent and squeezed states on a compact smooth manifold using the pullback via Whitney embedding and identifying the real Euclidean space with an affine chart in a complex projective space. They also define quantization via pull-back on a totally real \(n\)-dimensional submanifold of \({\mathbb C}P^n\) and discuss how this construction can be generalized.
