The authors investigate the linear stability of the trivial solution of the conjugate-coupled Stuart-Landau equation \[ \dot{Z}_j = (1+i\omega_j - |Z_j|^2) Z_j + K (i Z_k^\star-Z_j),\tag{1} \] where \(j, k = 1, 2\) (\(j \neq k\)). They show, that the stability of the trivial solution depends on the coupling strength \(K\) and the mean frequency \(\omega_0=(\omega_1+\omega_2)/2\), but not on the frequency mismatch \(|\omega_1-\omega_2|\). In the second part, the authors investigate the limiting case for \(N \gg 2\) oscillators \[ \dot{Z}_j = (1+i\omega_j - |Z_j|^2) Z_j + \frac{K}{N}\sum_{k=1}^N (iZ_k^\star-Z_j)\tag{2} \] with \(j=1,\ldots,N\), where the frequencies are assumed to be randomly sampled. Again the spectrum of the trivial solution is studied and the authors derive results for the continuous and point spectrum. For a Lorentzian frequency distribution the authors calculate the stability boundaries for different values of the mean frequency \(\omega_0\). Finally, the authors consider the case of a networked system of oscillators and show that the stability is independent of the network topology.
