This paper presents an overview of the study of probability theory on semigroups. The emphasis is placed on the convolution of infinite measures. Important concepts such as the factorization theorem of convolution idempotents and the Rees decomposition theorem on semigroups are presented. These results were established in the past mostly on second countable or metrizable spaces. A Polish space is a separable completely metrizable topological space. A Polish space is therefore a particular case of a second countable space which is generally more suitable for probability theory. The author provides better proofs in most cases than ones that would have been done with a second countable topology.
