In this work the author proves that the problem \(\{-g(t)[u'(t)]^\gamma\}'=f(t,u(t))\), \(u(0)=u(\infty)=0\), where \(t\in(0,\infty)\), \(\gamma\) is an odd integer, \(x\to f(t,x)\) is increasing, \[ |u|\leq h_0,\quad |u'|\leq h_1, \text{ (a.e.)}, \] \(h_0,h_1\) are real-valued functions on \([0,\infty)\) with \(h_0,h_1\in L^{p}(0,\infty)\), \[ |f(t,x)|\leq b(t)+\mathrm{const.}|x|^{p-1}, (t,x)\in[0,\infty)\times(-\infty,\infty), \] \(p\geq 1\), \(b\in L^{q}(0,\infty)\), \(1/p+1/q=1\), has a weak solution provided that \(gh_1^{1+\gamma}\in L^1(0,\infty)\) and \[ 0<\Vert G\Vert_{L^\alpha}<\infty, \] where \(\alpha=(p\gamma)/(1+\gamma)\) and \[ G(x):=\min{\int_0^{x}|g(t)|^{-\gamma}dt,\int_{x}^\infty|g(t)|^{-\gamma}dt}. \]
