The author makes a review of works concerning branching process with immigration, with a special focus on less available Russian literature. There are \(107\) references spanning the years 1957--2021. The review departs from [\textit{B. A. Sevast'yanov}, Teor. Veroyatn. Primen. 2, 339--348 (1957; Zbl 0089.34201)], and considers process with decreasing, increasing, dependent, reproduction dependent, Poisson, and non-homogeneous state-dependent immigration. In the decreasing immigration case, results concerning various regimes (depending on how quickly immigration decays) of extinction are reported. Furthermore, limits of cumulative distribution functions, of scaled population sizes, conditioned on non-extinction, and transition probabilities of populations sizes are reported on. In the increasing immigration case, results concerning convergence to normality (or another limiting random variable, depending on the regime) are reported on.
