Tilting theory arises as a universal method for constructing equivalences between categories. Originally introduced in the context of module categories over finite dimensional algebras, tilting theory is now considered an essential tool in the study of many areas of mathematics, including finite and algebraic group theory, commutative and non-commutative algebraic geometry, and algebraic topology. In the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras, torsion pairs were studied by several authors in connection with classical tilting modules. For these torsion pairs, there are equivalences between torsion (resp., torsion-free) classes and torsion-free (resp., torsion) classes, which is known as Theorem of \textit{S. Brenner} and \textit{M. C. R. Butler} [Lect. Notes Math. 832, 103--169 (1980; Zbl 0446.16031)]. On the other hand, Rickard introduced the notion of tilting complexes as a generalization of tilting modules, and showed that these complexes induce equivalences between derived categories of module categories. The concept of tilting complexes has been generalized in different directions. One of them is due to [\textit{B. Keller} and \textit{D. Vossieck}, Bull. Soc. Math. Belg., Sér. A 40, No. 2, 239--253 (1988; Zbl 0671.18003)] and involves the notion of silting complexes. In [\textit{M. Hoshino} et al., J. Pure Appl. Algebra 167, No. 1, 15--35 (2002; Zbl 1006.18011)] the relation between 2-term silting complexes and torsion pairs was first considered. In this paper, the notion of relative silting complexes is introduced and we see that they play a similar role as silting complexes. Indeed, let \(R\) be a commutative Artinian ring, \(\mathcal{A}\) be an abelian category with coproducts which is a finite \(R\)-variety and \(\mathcal{S}\) be a finite set of compact objects of \(\mathcal{A}\) such that \(\mathcal{X}=\) add-\(\mathcal{S}\) is a dualizing \(R\)-variety. If \(X \in K^b(\mathcal{X})\) is a 2-term \(\mathcal{X}\)-relative silting complex, then there are two torsion pairs, one in \(\mathcal{A}\) and the other one in mod-\(\mathrm{End}(X)^{op}\) together with a pair of crosswise equivalences between torsion and torsion-free classes.
