A classical result by J.~Steiner states invariance of area of the polygon formed by the pedals from a point \(M\) on an arbitrary planar polygon, if \(M\) varies on a circle around Steiner's curvature centroid \(K\). Steiner also proved a continuous version of this theorem: Given a smooth, closed, plane curve \(\mathcal{C}\), there is a point \(K\) such that the area of the pedal curve with respect to a point \(M\) varying on any circle around \(K\) is constant. The authors proves similar results for numerous ``pedal-like'' curves (``negative'', ``contra'', ``rotated'', ``interpolated'', or ``hybrid'' pedal curve; not all of these names are standard) in the case where \(\mathcal{C}\) is an ellipse and \(M\) varies on the ellipse or on a concentric circle. For some areas, rather simple explicit expressions or relations are provided and generalized to pedal-like curves for sufficiently regular plane curves. The abundance of results might be a hint to a common underlying structure that is responsible for area invariance. If so, many more results of similar flavor and, hopefully, a unifying theory are to be expected.
