The authors carry out the formalization of the generalized periodicity (GP) condition and then incorporate it into the \(\mathcal{C}^0\) interior penalty finite element method in order to solve some 4th-order PDEs, modeling the behavior of some metamaterials. The GP concept is built on the repetition of a unit cell, together with the conditions for a proper computation on such cell. Then they elaborate on the GP conditions so that the problem statement in the unit cell is equivalent to the problem in the infinite metamaterial domain. The methodology to implement generalized periodicity in the context of the FE method, which is applicable to any type of PDE, is thoroughly elaborate. Some numerical tests are carried out and the outcomes are compared with previously obtained numerical results of the authors.
