For real \(s>1\) let \(X_s\) denote a random variable with the distribution \(P(X_s=n)=1/(\zeta(s)n^s)\), where \(n\geq 1\) is an integer and \(\zeta\) refers to the Riemann zeta function. In the paper under review, the authors study various properties of positive integers selected according to the distribution \(P(X_s=n)\). One way to perform this study is to check the statistical properties of arithmetic functions of \(X_s\), including the function \(\omega(X_s)\) denoting the number of distinct prime divisors of \(X_s\), and the function \(\Omega(X_s)\) denoting the total number of distinct prime divisors of \(X_s\), for which the authors compute \(E[\omega(X_s)]\) and \(E[\Omega(X_s)]\), among some other similar computations. The authors also compute the mean and variance of \(\log \sigma_0(X_s)\), where \(\sigma_0\) refers to the number of divisors function. They use the Lindeberg-Feller conditions to establish the central limit theorem for \(\log \sigma_0(X_s)\). Also, they obtain analogue of Erdős-Delange type formulas for expectations of additive and multiplicative functions evaluated at \(X_s\). Finally, they show how to transfer results that are derived for \(X_s\) as \(s\to 1^{+}\) to the same result for the harmonic or the uniform distribution as \(N\to\infty\).
