In this paper, the higher order nonlinear differential equation \[ u^{(n)}+q(t)u^{(n-2)}=r(t)|u|^\lambda \operatorname{sgn}{u},\quad n\geq 2,\quad \lambda>0 \tag{1} \] is considered, where the functions \(q(t)>0\) and \(r(t)\) are continuous for \(t\geq 1\). Equation (1) can be regarded as a perturbation of the two-term linear equation \[ y^{(n)}+q(t)y^{(n-2)}=0. \tag{2} \] In this point of view, the authors investigate the proximity of solutions of two differential equations (1) and (2). Following the idea of \textit{M. Bartušek} et al. [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 388, No. 2, 1130--1140 (2012; Zbl 1232.34051)], the authors show the existence of a \(n\)-parameter set of nonoscillatory solutions of equation (1) with polynomial and noninteger power-law growth. Moreover, the authors are also motivated by \textit{I. T. Kiguradze} and \textit{T. A. Chanturiya} [Asymptotic properties of solutions of nonautonomous ordinary differential equations. Transl. from the Russian. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers (1993; Zbl 0782.34002)], and study the more general equation \[ u^{(n)}+\sum_{j=0}^{n-1}a_j(t)u^{(j)}=r(t)|u|^\lambda \operatorname{sgn}{u},\quad n\geq 2,\quad \lambda>0, \tag{3} \] which is a perturbation of the linear equation \[ y^{(n)}+\sum_{j=0}^{n-1}a_j(t)y^{(j)}=0, \tag{4} \] where the functions \(a_j(t)\) (\(j=0,\ldots,n-1\)) are continuous for \(t\geq 1\). The authors present sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of equation (3) with asymptotic growth of polynomial type. The authors include some fine corollaries and examples.
