The article in question tackles the Newtonian fluid with the pressure law \[ p(\varrho\theta)=a(\varrho\theta)^\gamma, \] where \(a\) is a given positive constant, \(\varrho\) denotes density, and \(\theta\) stands for the temperature of the fluid. The heat conductivity of the fluid is neglected and, consequently, the evolution of temperature is given by a simple transport equation \[ \partial_t(\varrho\theta) +\operatorname{div}_x(\varrho\theta u) = 0. \] This model is often used in meteorological applications. The authors work with the notion of dissipative measure-valued solution. This allows the authors to deduce an existence result for the adiabatic constant \(\gamma>1\). The dissipative measure-valued solution itself consists of a Young measure \(\mathcal V\), i.e., a parametrized family of probability measures on a state space \((\mathbb R\times \mathbb R^3\times \mathbb R)\), and a concentration defect measure, a dissipation defect measure, and the Reynolds concentration defect. The proof of existence relies on the approximation by means of the finite volume-finite element method, whose analysis takes the majority of the paper. In the last section, the authors use the dissipative measure-valued strong uniqueness property in order to prove that the sequence of approximations tends to a strong solution as long as it exists.
