In this article, the authors studied the global existence and boundedness of solutions to the following degenerate parabolic-parabolic system \[ \begin{cases} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = \nabla \cdot (\nabla u^m - u^{q-1}\nabla v), \\ \frac{\partial v}{\partial t} = \Delta v - v + u,\end{cases}\tag{1} \] in the whole space \( \mathbb{R}^n\), \(n \geq 3\) and \(t>0\), and where \(q>1\) and \(1<m<2\). It is known that under suitable assumptions on the exponents and the initial data \begin{itemize} \item[(a)] if \(q < m + \frac{n}{2}\), then (1) has a global bounded solution without any restriction on the size of the initial data [\textit{Y. Sugiyama} and \textit{H. Kunii}, J. Differ. Equations 227, No. 1, 333--364 (2006; Zbl 1102.35046); \textit{Y. Sugiyama}, Differ. Integral Equ. 20, No. 2, 133--180 (2007; Zbl 1212.35241); \textit{S. Ishida} and \textit{T. Yokota}, J. Differ. Equations 252, No. 2, 1421--1440 (2012; Zbl 1237.35093)]. \item[(b)] if \(q \geq m + \frac{n}{2}\) then (1) has a global solution for small initial data [\textit{S. Ishida} and \textit{T. Yokota}, J. Differ. Equations 252, No. 3, 2469--2491 (2012; Zbl 1241.35118)]. Moreover, there exists an initial data for which solution blows up in finite time if \(q \geq m + \frac{n}{2}\). \end{itemize} The article under review proved that for \[ m_c:=\frac{2n}{n+2} < m-q+2<2-\frac{2}{n}=:m_*. \] and hence, in particular, \(q > m + \frac{n}{2}\), the global existence prevails and remains bounded for initial data with a quantitative bound on the \(L^{m_c}\)-norm and the energy of the initial data. Here \(m_*\) is mass critical [\textit{A. Blanchet} et al., Calc. Var. Partial Differ. Equ. 35, No. 2, 133--168 (2009; Zbl 1172.35035)] and \(m_c\) is energy critical [\textit{L. Chen} et al., SIAM J. Math. Anal. 44, No. 2, 1077--1102 (2012; Zbl 1255.35034)] for the corresponding parabolic-elliptic case when \(q=2\). The result extends the recent work of \textit{J. Wang} et al. [Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 70, No. 3, Paper No. 71, 18 p. (2019; Zbl 1415.35159)], where the case \(q = 2\) has been considered.
