The article studies the Hopf bifurcation of a three-dimensional nonlinear generalized Lorenz system. The right part of two of the three equations of the system contains terms of second degree. Nonzero equilibrium states are considered. The conditions for the occurrence of four limit cycles for each of the two nonzero equilibrium states are obtained. It is assumed that the matrix of linear approximation of the system in the vicinity of nonzero equilibrium states has purely imaginary eigenvalues. First, by a change of variables, the system is transferred to the neighborhood of one of the nonzero equilibrium states. Then the matrix of linear approximation of the system is reduced to a diagonal form. Thus, the transition from real values of system variables to complex values is carried out. The study of the obtained systems is carried out by combining numerical and qualitative methods. Numerical calculations are carried out using the ``Mathematica'' software system. Qualitative methods are based on the results from [\textit{Q. Wang} et al., Bull. Sci. Math. 134, No. 7, 786--798 (2010; Zbl 1204.37051)]. Also of great importance in research methods is the study of solutions of a special system of partial differential equations from [\textit{J. Llibre} and \textit{X. Zhang}, J. Math. Phys. 43, No. 3, 1622--1645 (2002; Zbl 1059.34005)].
