In this paper, for two given centred Gaussian fields with close covariance kernels the authors construct a coupling such that the fields are uniformly close on some compact with probability very close to one. A coupling is introduced which works equally well for fields such that their covariance kernel does not decay at infinity fast enough so that they cannot be given by a white-noise convolution. It is shown that the spectral measure is helpful to treat the cases of singular spectral measures which is hard to analyse in terms of kernels and not amenable to white noise decomposition arguments. As an example arithmetic random waves and monochromatic plane waves are considered. These fields have singular spectral measures and their covariance kernels are not in \(L^2\), so the fields cannot be written as a convolution with the white noise.
