Linear and nonlinear substructured restricted additive Schwarz iterations and preconditioning (Q2163447)

This article discusses the influence of restricted additive Schwarz iterations method as an iterative solver and as a preconditioner. It is obtained that the restricted additive Schwarz and its substructured version converge at the same rate, both in the linear and nonlinear case. In the nonlinear case, the authors introduced the substructured restricted additive Schwarz preconditioned exact Newton method and studied its convergence. In contrast to the linear case, it is shown that the Newton's method applied to the preconditioned volume and substructured formulation produces the same iterates in the nonlinear case. Numerical experiments are included to support the theoretical findings.
