An equivalent form of the Prime Number Theorem states that the Chebyshev function \[ \psi(x):=\sum_{n\leq x}\Lambda(n)=(1+o(1))x, \] where \(\Lambda\) is the von Mangoldt function. A natural question is if the same is true for primes in short intervals, that is, whether if \[ \psi(x+h)-\psi(x)=(1+o(1))h, \] for \(h\) with moderate size and going to infinity with \(x\). A result of \textit{D. R. Heath-Brown} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 389, 22--63 (1988; Zbl 0646.10032)] states that this is true provided that \(x^{7/12}\leq h \leq \frac{x}{(\log x)^A}\), where \(A\) is an explicit positive constant. When we assume the Riemann hypothesis, a result of \textit{A. Selberg} [Arch. Math. Naturvid. 47, No. 6, 87--105 (1943; Zbl 0063.06869)] shows that we can take any \(h\) such that \(h/(x^{1/2}\log x)\to\infty\). In the paper under review, the authors provide an explicit version of Selberg's result: Assuming the Riemann hypothesis, for any \(h\) in the range \(x^{1/2}\log x\leq h\leq x^{3/4}\) and all \(x\geq e^{10}\), we have \[ |\psi(x+h)-\psi(x)-h|<\frac{1}{\pi}\sqrt{x}(\log x)\log\left(\frac{h}{\sqrt{x}\log x}\right)+2\sqrt{x}\log x. \]
