The center of distances \(S(A)\) of a nonempty subset \(A\) of a metric space \((X,d)\) is the set of all \(\alpha\in [0,+\infty)\) with the following property: for every \(x\in A\) there exists \(y\in A\) with \(d(x,y)=\alpha\). Clearly, \(0\in S(A)\). This notion was introduced by Bielas, Plewik and Walczynska [\textit{W. Bielas} et al., Eur. J. Math. 4, No. 2, 687--698 (2018; Zbl 1422.40001)]. As the paper clearly states, there are many situations where this concept plays an interesting role. For example, if one is interested in proving that certain subsets of the real line are not sets of subsums of any series. And if one is interested in the geometry of Cantor sets. In this paper, the authors contribute to determining the centers of distances of so-called central Cantor sets in the real line. They give among other things nice criteria when the center of distances of a central Cantor set is minimal respectively large. The paper also contains several illuminating examples.
