Let \(S_g\) be the closed orientable surface of genus \(g \geq 2\) and let \(\text{Mod}(S_g)\) be the mapping class group of \(S_g\). Given two elements \(f,h \in \mathrm{Mod}(S_g)\), the elements \(f,h\) are \(z\)-equivalent (or in the same \(z\)-class) if their centralizers are conjugate in \(\mathrm{Mod}(S_g)\). In this paper, the author shows that given \(f\) is \(z\)-equivalent to \(h\), the following statements hold. \begin{itemize} \item[1.] \(f\) is reducible if and only if \(h\) is reducible. \item[2.] \(f\) is irreducible periodic if and only if \(h\) is irreducible periodic. \item[3.] \(f\) is pseudo-Anosov if and only if \(h\) is pseudo-Anosov. \end{itemize} Furthermore, the above statement is also true for a class of periodic and pseudo-periodic elements.
