\textit{L. Rodman} [J. Funct. Anal. 45, 226--235 (1982; Zbl 0494.46024)] proved that if \(M_1\) and \(M_2\) are closed subspaces of finite codimension in a separable Hilbert space \(H\), then they have a common complement, that is there is a closed subspace \(N\) such that \(H= M_1\dotplus N=M_2\dotplus N\). In the paper under review, the author studies the existence, quantity, and quality of common complements of a given countable family of closed subspaces of finite codimension in a Hilbert space. He proves that common complements with subexponential decay of quality are generic in Hilbert spaces. In addition, he shows that the existence of one such complement in a Banach space already implies that they are generic.
