A subgroup \(H\) of an infinite group \(G\) is fully invariant if for every endomorphism \(\phi\) of \(G\), \(\phi(H)\) is contained in \(H\), and fully inert if for every endomorphism \(\phi,\ H\) has finite index in the subgroup generated by \(H\) and \(\phi(H)\). Subgroups \(H\) and \(K\) of \(G\) are commensurable if their intersection has finite index in each of them. Finally, a class of groups has minimal full inertia if very fully inert subgroup is commensurable with a fully invariant subgroup.\par The authors study these properties in the context of abelian \(p\)-groups. It is known that direct sums of cyclics and torsion-complete groups have minimal full inertia. In this paper, they prove that in general, groups with small endomorphism rings do not have minimal full inertia. They study the closure under direct sums of groups which have minimal full inertia, and those which do not have minimal full inertia. They find new examples of classes which do, and classes which do not have minimal full inertia and pose several open questions about these classes.
