In this paper, the authors study homogeneous Lorentzian manifolds \(M\) that can be obtained as a quotient of a connected reductive Lie group \(G\) modulo a connected reductive subgroup \(L\), under the additional assumption that \(M\) is (almost) \(G\)-effective and the isotropy representation is totally reducible. It turns out that it is sufficient to consider the case of semisimple Lie groups \(G\) and all such manifolds \(M\) are then reductive. The authors classify all possible totally reducible subgroups of the Lorentz group and divide them into three types. The subgroups of Type I are compact, while the subgroups of Type II and Type III are non-compact. The explicit description of the corresponding homogeneous Lorentzian spaces of Type II and III is given. In the second part of the paper the authors study what they call admissible manifolds. These are effective homogeneous manifolds \(M=G/L\) that admit an invariant Lorentzian metric. They also call such manifolds minimal admissible if \(L\) is a maximal subgroup with these properties. The authors classify all minimal admissible homogeneous manifolds \(G/L\) of a compact semisimple Lie group \(G\) and describe all invariant Lorentzian metrics on them.
