For an elliptic curve \(E\) defined over \(\mathbb Q\), let \(r(E)\) be the rank of the Mordell-Weil group \(E(\mathbb Q)\) and \(E_k\) the quadratic twist of \(E\) by a square free integer \(k\). Goldfeld conjectures that the average of the rank \(r(E_k)\) varying over all fundamental discriminants \(k\) is \(1/2\). This conjecture implies that there are infinitely many \(k\) and \(k'\) such that \(r(E_k)=0\) and \(r(E_{k'})>0\). Also, Silverman conjectures that there are infinitely many primes \(p\) and \(p'\) for which \(r(E_p)=0\) and \(r(E_{p'})>0\). The authors show that for the family of the twists \(E_k: y^2=x^3-k^3\) of the curve \(E: y^2=x^3-1\) some parts of these conjectures hold. In the case where \(k\) is not a prime up to a sign, they show that there are infinitely many \(k\) and \(k'\) for that \(r(E_k)=0\) and \((E_{k'})>0\). In the case \(k=p\) is a prime, they show that \(r(E_p)=0\) (resp. \(r(E_p)>0\)) if \(p\equiv 5 \mod 12\) (resp.\(p\equiv 11 \mod 12\),under the parity conjecture). Further they provide some precise values of \(k\) for which \(r(E_k)=0\) and give an infinite family of \(E_k\) over the number field \(\mathbb Q(m)\) with \(r(E_k)\ge 2\), where \(m\) is determined by the equation \((2m^2-1)^3+(k+1)(m^2+1)^3=0\). These results are proved by using \(2\)-descents and by constructing some non-torsion points.
