Compactifications of homeomorphism groups of linearly ordered compacta (Q2170499)

It is shown that the pointwise convergence topology is an admissible group topology on the group of order-preserving homeomorphisms of a linearly ordered compactum and hence also for a linearly ordered space. The groups of order-preserving homeomorphisms of the following spaces are identified explicitly: the lexicographically ordered square; the lexicographically ordered plane; the double arrow space. The group of homeomorphisms of the extended closed long ray is also considered.
