The perturbed Hill equation is considered, i.e. the equation \[ y''(x)+ p(x) y(x) + q(x) y(x) = \lambda y(x),\tag{1} \] for \(x\in \mathbb{R}\), \(p\) periodic and continuous (\(p(x+1) = p(x)\)) and the perturbation \(q\) satisfying \[ \int_{-\infty}^\infty (1+|x|^r)|q(x)|\,\mathrm{d}x < \infty \] for \(r=1\) or \(r=2\). Floquet solutions to the unperturbed problem are found. Solutions of the equation (1) can be represented in the form using one of the Floquet solutions and an integral kernel \(A_1(x,y)\). This integral kernel satisfies an integral equation in which function \(\Gamma(x,t,y,z)\) appears. The main results of the paper are the differentiability and continuity properties of the function \(\Gamma\); moreover, a particular function value is found. The authors claim that the results justify the scattering theory developed in the references [\textit{N. E. Firsova}, Math. Notes 18, 1085--1091 (1976; Zbl 0328.34016); Math. USSR, Sb. 58, 351--388 (1987; Zbl 0627.34028)] of the paper. Note that there might be misprints in the paper, I noticed two, in particular in the last displayed equation on the first page \(\varphi'(x,\lambda) = 1\) should read as \(\varphi'(0,\lambda) = 1\) and instead of the expression \(\theta'(0,\lambda) = 1\) there should be \(\theta'(0,\lambda) = 0\).
