This article presents compactness properties for the abstract semilinear second order integro-differential equation \[ u_{tt}(t) + Au(t) - \int_0^\tau k(s)Au(t-s)ds + f(u) = g(t). \] Here, the memory occurs in finite (\(\tau = t\)) or infinite (\(\tau = \infty\)) form. The author considers decay estimates of global bounded solutions and convergence to a steady state in the sense that \(A + f\) is assumed to be the gradient of a potential satisfying the Łojasiewicz-Simon inequality.
