The paper under review deals with the periodic homogenization of certain composite fibered media. Periodic fibered media are represented as a domain \(\Omega\) which is a periodic replication with period \(\epsilon\) of a set \(Y_i^\epsilon\), where \(Y_i^\epsilon\) is the union of a fiber \(F_i^\epsilon\) with its complement in \(Y_i^\epsilon\). As is well known, the study of problems in this type of media leads to homogenized problems that may differ from the equations at the microscopic level and memory effects, strange terms, nonlocal effects may appear. By means of two examples, the authors show that in the case of fibered media such effects are not due to the homogenization process, but the form of the homogenized problem is determined by the study of the \(3d-1d\) reduction of dimension which occurs locally.
