The aim of the present paper is to investigate an important result in the multilinear setting, namely, a coincidence theorem for multilinear operators. The authors show that, if \(Z\) is a Banach space of cotype \(2\), then every \(m\)-linear form \(\ell _{1}\times \cdots \times \ell _{1}\times Z\to\mathbb{C}\) is multiple \((1,1)\)-summing. In addition, if \(\inf \left\{ q:Z\text{ has cotype }q\right\} >2\), then there exists \(T:\ell _{1}\times \cdots\times \ell _{1}\times Z\to \mathbb{C}\) which is not \((1,1)\)-summing. This result extends the multilinear Grothendieck theorem given in [\textit{D. Pérez-García} and \textit{I. Villanueva}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 285, No. 1, 86--96 (2003; Zbl 1044.46037)].
