An \(A_{\infty}\)-algebra can be given as a sequence \((X, d, m_2, m_3, \cdots, m_n, \cdots)\) where \((X, d)\) is a cochain complex of vector spaces equipped with morphisms of graded vector spaces \(m_n: X^{\otimes n}\to X\) of degree \(2-n\) satysfying certain equations. It is minimal if \(d=0\). An \(A_n\)-algebra \((A,m_1,m_2,\dots,m_n)\) is a special kind of \(A_{\infty}\)-algebra satisfying the \(A_{\infty}\)-relations involving just the \(m_i\) listed. Author of the paper under review considers obstructions to extending an \(A_{n-1}\)-algebra to an \(A_n\)-algebra. The paper enhances the known techniques [\textit{A. K. Bousfield}, Isr. J. Math. 66, No. 1--3, 54--104 (1989; Zbl 0677.55020)] by extending the Bousfield-Kan spectral sequence [\textit{A. K. Bousfield} and \textit{D. M. Kan}, Homotopy limits, completions and localizations. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1972; Zbl 0259.55004)] to apply to the homotopy groups of the space of minimal \(A_{\infty}\)-algebra structures on a given graded projective module. The paper also considers the Bousfield-Kan spectral sequence for the moduli space of \(A_{\infty}\)-algebras. Moreover, the paper computes the \( E_2 \) terms and differentials \(d_2\) of these spectral sequences in terms of the Hochschild cohomology. The paper consists of an introduction and seven sections. The first two sections mostly contain information on operads, their modules, and Hochschild cohomology. The third section studies the \(A_{\infty}\)-operad and its cellular filtration. In the next two sections, the extended (truncated) spectral sequence of a tower of fibrations under appropriate assumptions is constructed. This is applied in the sixth section to the tower of mapping spaces. In the final section the tower of moduli spaces is considered.
