Let \(X\) be a partially ordered vector space with positive cone \(K\); denote \(x\geq y\) if \(x-y \in K\). A~partially ordered vector space is called a \textit{pre-Riesz space} if, for each \(x,y,z \in X\) such that \(\{x+y, x+z\}^u \subseteq \{y, z\}^u\), one has \(x\geq 0\). For \(M \subseteq X\), with \(X\) being a pre-Riesz space, denote \(M^u:=\{x \in X:\) for each \(y \in M\) one has \(x \geq y \}\). Elements \(x,y \in X\), \(X\) being a pre-Riesz space, are said to be \textit{disjoint}, denoted by \(x \perp y\), if one has \(\{x+y, -x-y\}^u = \{x-y, -x+y\}^u\). For pre-Riesz spaces \(X,Y\) and a linear operator \(T\) from \(X\) into \(Y\), we say that \textit{\(T\) is disjointness preserving} if \(T(x) \perp T(y)\) whenever \(x \perp y\). Almost three decades ago, Yu. A. Abramovich posed the question of the disjoint preserving property of the inverse of a bijective linear operator between vector lattices, given that the operator is disjointness preserving. The answer is in the affirmative if the spaces are Banach lattices. In the present work, the authors explore the question posed above for (possibly) infinite dimensional normed pre-Riesz spaces and obtain affirmative answers in certain particular situations. These results are too technical to be stated here.
