Let \(\mathcal{C}\) be an abelian category and \(\mathcal{A}b\) the category of abelian groups. Write \(\mbox{mod-}\mathcal{C}\) for the category of all coherent functors \(\mathcal{C}\to \mathcal{A}b\). \textit{M. Auslander} [in: Proc. Conf. Categor. Algebra, La Jolla 1965, 189--231 (1966; Zbl 0192.10902)] provided a nice connection between \(\mbox{mod-}\mathcal{C}\) and \(\mathcal{C}\) which is known as \textit{Auslander's formula}. Recently, \textit{H. Krause} [Doc. Math. 20, 669--688 (2015; Zbl 1348.18018)] established a derived version of Auslander's formula. This paper contains a detailed study of various versions of Auslander's formula, including the versions for all modules and for unbounded derived categories. For the proof, the authors follow an argument similar to that described in the classical case by Auslander. Some results concerning recollements (see e.g., [\textit{A. A. Beilinson} et al., Astérisque 100, 172 p. (1982; Zbl 0536.14011)]) of triangulated categories are included as well.
