Let \(\omega(n)\) denote the number of distinct prime factors of the natural number \(n\). For any natural number \(\ell\) and \(z\in\mathbb{R}\) let \[ \Phi_\ell(z)=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^z t^\ell\,e^{-t^2/2}\,dt. \] In the paper under review, the authors generalize the Erdös-Kac theorem by showing that as \(x\to\infty\), \[ \frac{1}{x}\sum\left(\frac{\omega(n)-\log\log x}{\sqrt{\log\log x}}\right)^\ell=\delta_\ell\,\Phi_\ell(z)+O_\ell\left(\frac{(\log\log\log x)^h}{\sqrt{\log\log x}}\right), \] where the sum runs over \(n\leq x\) satisfying \(\frac{\omega(n)-\log\log x}{\sqrt{\log\log x}}\leq z\), \(\delta_\ell=0\) for positive odd integers \(\ell\) and \(\delta_\ell=1\) for positive even integers \(\ell\), and \(h=\max\{3,\ell\}\).
