Let \(G\) be a non-compact connected semisimple Lie group with finite center. When \(G\) is equal rank, it has discrete series. In [Acta Math. 116, 1--111 (1966; Zbl 0199.20102)], \textit{Harish-Chandra} established an analogue of Schur orthogonality relations for the elliptic pairing of discrete series. It follows easily that the elliptic pairing is equal to the multiplicity pairing since the category of square integrable representations is semisimple. The current paper aims to generalize Harish-Chandra's above result. The authors drop the assumption that \(G\) is equal rank. Moreover, instead of discrete series, they consider arbitrary admissible representations. The elliptic pairing is defined in the same way. However, since the category of admissible representations of \(G\) is no longer semisimple, they need to replace the multiplicity pairing by the homological pairing which was inspired by \textit{D. Kazhdan}'s study of \(p\)-adic reductive groups in [J. Anal. Math. 47, 1--36 (1986; Zbl 0634.22009)]. The main result is that the homological pairing is equal to the elliptic pairing between admissible representations of \(G\).
