A two parameter discrete distribution, called Nielsen distribution which generalizes the Fisher logarithmic and Stirling Type I distributions, is defined. Some properties, such as PGF, MGF, CGF, CF, distribution of the sum of independent Nielsen random variables etc. are derived. Maximum likelihood method is used to estimate parameters to analyze three real data sets (Number of (a) automobile insurance claims, (b) accidents of workers in a steel corporation, and (c) chromatid aberrations).
