      Under consideration is the problem \[ u_{1t}=\operatorname{sgn}\,x\, u_{1xx}+sgn\,y\, u_{1yy}+f(x,y,t), \] \[ u_{2tt}=\operatorname{sgn}\,x \,u_{2xx}+\operatorname{sgn}\,y\, u_{yy}+u_{1}, \ (x,y)\in \Omega=(-1,1)^{2}, \] \[ u_{1}|_{t=0}=u_{0}(x),\ \frac{\partial^{i} u_{2}}{\partial t^{i}}\Bigl|_{t=0}=u_{i+1} \ (i=0,1),\ u_{j}|_{\partial \Omega}=0\ (j=1,2), \] A representation of a solution to this problem is derived in the form of a series in eigenfunctions of the corresponding spectral problems, the uniqueness theorem and conditional stability estimates for solutions are obtained.
