Let \( j:=\frac{1}{q}+744+196884+\cdots\) be the classical Klein modular invariant. It is well known that, the values of \(j\) at imaginary quadratic irrationalities have been receiving much attention and they play an important role in the theory of complex multiplication. Furthermore, R. Borcherds and D. Zagier relate their traces to the coefficients of half integral weight modular forms which are interesting too. \textit{M. Kaneko} [Kyushu J. Math. 63, No. 2, 353--364 (2009; Zbl 1246.11096)] studied the numerical values of \(j(w)\) and made several remarkable observations about the values of the modular \(j\)-invariant at real quadratic irrationalities. The values of modular functions at real quadratics are defined in terms of their cycle integrals along the associated geodesics. Among his many observations, the authors consider the boundedness conjecture. There are two main results in the paper under review, namely, in Theorem 1 they proves the upper bound conjectured by Kaneko for real quadratic irrationalities while in Theorem 2, they show that in fact this bound is optimal. The proofs are based on nice calculations.
