Let \(\mathcal{V}\) be a variety of algebras with no nullary operations and with at least one non-unary operation. Let \(\mathcal{S}\) be the variety, of the same type as \(\mathcal{V}\), equivalent to the variety of semilattices. The Mal'tsev product \(\mathcal{V}\circ\mathcal{S}\) is a \textit{quasivariety} that consists of algebras with a congruence \(\theta\) such that the quotient \(A^\theta\) is in \(\mathcal{S}\) and each \(\theta\)-class \(a^\theta\) is in \(\mathcal{V}\). This paper investigates different properties of the class \(\mathcal{V}\circ\mathcal{S}\). Among the others it is shown when it is a \textit{variety} and how members of \(\mathcal{V}\circ\mathcal{S}\) and semilattice sums of \(\mathcal{V}\)-algebras are related.
